Artist's Comments

"...I tore off my mask so as not to lose one of her tears... and she did not run away!... And she did not die!... She remained alive, weeping over me, with me. We cried together! I have tasted all the happiness the world can offer! Listen, daroga... listen to this.... While I was at her feet... I heard her say, `Poor, unhappy Erik!'"
~ from "The Phantom of the Opera" by Gaston Leroux

--------------

The story lingers with me regardless of the form it takes.

I devoured the novel while at work yesterday -- it had been years since I read it and I had forgotten how good it is. This image of Erik and Christine wouldn't leave my head, so here it is. (And the sketch is here: [link] ) I never attempted to draw the characters until this picture, so please be gentle...

Erik is probably not as ugly as I could've made him... I'll have to work on that (though it's hard to show his deformities at that angle, anyway)... he has no nose, though. And the poor guy would've been a whole lot less homicidal if he'd only gotten a hug. ^_~

I'd like to do more Phantom pictures, and perhaps I will if people seem to like this one and my inspiration sticks...

Erik and Christine do not belong to me. Please don't sue me. I'm just doing this for fun!

This is amazing...

There's a book out (been out for several years) called "Phantom" that was realy good. I wish I could tell you who it was by, but I can't find my copy... ;-; I think you'd likethat book... It's a slightly different take on the story of the Phantom of the Opera

I have a copy, it's by Susan Kay! (Oh, I really am obsessed, aren't I? *looks around guiltily*) Anyway, the book is excellent, I love it. I was actually considering doing a picture from that version, after I finish re-reading it...

Thank you very much for the comments and the fave. ^_^
